Reliance Industries temporarily shuts PET, PTA units at Dahej on water shortage

"RIL is ensuring a continued supply of PTA to the domestic market from its Hazira and Patalganga manufacturing complexes," it said.

MUMBAI: Reliance Industries is running at lower capacity at some plants and is undertaking shut down of twonof its petrochemical units at Dahej in Gujarat in response to insufficient water to run the units, the company informed bourses on Tuesday.

RIL said that lower availibility of dam water and increased salinity in water available had prompted the company to reduce production and temporarily shut down its PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and PTA (purified terephthalic acid) units. RIL has 2.3 MMTPA of PTA capacity and 60 KTPA of PET capacity at Dahej.

"RIL has initiated alternative arrangements for water and is closely monitoring the situation. It has also used the current situation to carry out planned maintenance and reliability activities. It is in a state of readiness to resume full supplies as soon as the water availability and water quality issues areresolved," the company said.
