Plan on anvil to tackle bomb threat to rigs
Apprehending terror threat to oil refineries and offshore rigs, the government is all set to chart out a “bomb threat contingency plan”.
While the fleets of coast guard would be enhanced considerably, the Indian Navy would also be kept on high alert. Apart from devising a seamless evacuation plan for emergency, the regional contingency committee would also take steps like tracking communication, information flow, bomb handling and transportation plan.
As soon as the bomb is detected in any of the rig in offshore, the navy and coast guard would be informed, a senior government official said.
The plan has been drafted under the offshore security co-ordination committee of the government, which is creating a dossier to deal with unnatural calamities in the exclusive economic zone of Indias coast line.
Huge infrastructure would be networked for the management of disaster and this includes airforce, oil companies, navy, local police and the nearest major port authority. Oil and gas companies are being directed to create sophisticated in-built capacities to deal with various problems arising due to explosions.
