India's petrol and diesel sales rose in September as the festival season kicked in, provisional oil ministry data show.

Petrol sales climbed 7.5% year-on-year in September, while diesel sales rose 6.27%. Higher vehicle sales following GST reduction and the onset of festivals boosted transportation fuel demand.

The strong September showing lifted cumulative sales growth this fiscal to 6.68% for petrol and 2.9% for diesel.

Jet fuel sales, however, fell 1.3% in September, extending the decline for a third consecutive month. So far this fiscal, ATF sales have grown less than 1%. Cooking gas demand increased 6.5% year-on-year in September, with April-September growth at 7.5%.
