NEW DELHI: Panic bookings by Delhiites after weeklong delays in supply of cooking gas refills by Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum in January have left state-owned oil marketing companies, including market leader IndianOil, grappling with a huge backlog.

HPCL and BPCL executives, however said, if the panic bookings were to stop, the situation will ease in a day or two.

Sources in the public sector oil marketing companies said HPCL and BPCL bottling plants supplying to Delhi ran dry for a day or two in January due to logistics logjam in moving bulk LPG to bottling plants.
