ONGC finds uranium traces in some wells

NEW DELHI: State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp has found traces of uranium in some of the 9,500 wells it has dug so far, a top company official said.
"We have dug about 9,500 wells so far and have found traces of uranium in some of the wells. We are studying the logs of these wells and it has shown progress," ONGC Chairman and Managing Director R S Sharma told reporters here on the sidelines of the Geo India 2008 conference.
Sharma is upbeat about the company's prospects in new oil and gas discoveries. "ONGC's prospects are certainly very large," Sharma said, adding some announcements are likely to be made after the company's Annual General Meeting on Friday.
Sharma added that ONGC's credit position is comfortable even in the face of upheavals and fall in the prices of crude oil globally and the recent depreciation of the rupee.
"The rupee is volatile right now. Our position is comfortable, but other upstream firms are still facing some uncertainty," Sharma said.
