ONGC drills deepest oil well in KG basin
State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) today said it has drilled the deepest well in search for oil and gas in the Krishna Godavari basin.
ONGC spud well 1-D-1 in block KG-DWN-2005/1 in water depth of 10,411 feet (3,174 meters), a company statement said here.
"This enabled ONGC to surpass its own earlier world record set in January 2013 for drilling a well in optimum water depth," it said.
Since 2004, ONGC has drilled over 100 deepwater wells. A large number of these wells are in water depth beyond 5,000 feet in environmentally and logistically difficult areas of east and west coast, ranging from Gujarat offshore to Mahanadi offshore, including 6 wells in Andaman offshore.
"Out of these, around 25 wells have been drilled in water depth of 5,000 feet to 7,500 feet, and 16 wells in water depth of 7,500 feet to 10,000 feet. The current well 1-D-1, which is under drilling, is the 3rd well in beyond 10,000 feet water depth," the statement said.
