NEW DELHI: The Association of Oil and Gas Operators in India (AOGOIN) has hailed the "exemplary performance" of oil regulator DGH under its current head V K Sibal saying India has finally arrived on the international oil scene because of him.

"Of notable achievements under his (Sibal's) able leadership are the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP)-V bid and award process during 2005, which has exceeded all international standards of transparency," the Association said in a letter to Petroleum Minister Murli Deora.

Association chairman Sastry Karra yesterday wrote to Deora hailing Sibal's "efforts in publicizing and promoting the upcoming NELP-VI, which already resulted in record data sales and created a great buzz in the international oil industry."

"Thanks to Sibal and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India has finally arrived on the international oil scene," the Association wrote.

Other achievements of Sibal include streamlining of approval processes under DGH, channeling the operators to come up with innovative techniques in oil and gas exploration and production, and bringing initiatives for sharing of drilling and seismic equipment and other resources among the various operators," the letter said.
