KG gas dispute: Kokilaben Ambani back in spotlight

RNRL told the Supreme Court that the KG gas dispute could have been resolved by Kokilaben Ambani.

NEW DELHI:Anil Ambani’s Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that the dispute between the Ambani brothers over supply of gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin could have been resolved by mother Kokilaben Ambani.

“Go back to mother if you like to resolve the dispute,” said RNRL counsel Ram Jethmalani to a bench comprising Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan, Justice B Sudershan Reddy and Justice P Sathasivam.

The thrust of Mr Jethmalani’s arguments was that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the members of the Ambani family formed the basis of the demerger of Reliance and the creation of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG).

The gas supply agreement in the MoU was an integral part of the demerger Mr Jethmalani said. If the gas supply contract could not be enforced the court might as well rescind the demerger of RIL and restore ADAG chairman Anil Ambani to his earlier position, Mr Jethmalani suggested.
