Karnataka in race for petrochemicals complex

The Karnataka Government decides to be in the race for securing allotment of petrochemicals complex proposed by the Centre at Mangalore.

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Government on Thursday decided to be in the race for securing allotment of petrochemicals complex proposed by the Centre at Mangalore.

Four states - Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal - have also applied to the Centre evincing interest in the project and the state would also join them in the race, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti told reporters here after a cabinet meeting.

The meeting decided that the state should also file its application before the Centre.

The project envisaged an investment of Rs 3590 crore, which had potential to create employment for ten lakh persons, he said.

The government is ready to fulfill all the conditions set by the Centre on the project, Horatti said.
