The LNG procured under this agreement will be strategically utilized by Torrent Power Ltd (TPL), including to operate its 2,730 MW combined cycle gas-based power plants (GBPPs) in India to meet the country’s rising power demand, peak demand periods’ support, and balancing the renewables, the company said, adding that it will also support the Torrent Group’s city gas distribution (CGD) arm – Torrent Gas Ltd's (TGL) growing requirement of LNG for gas supply to households, CNG vehicles and commercial and industrial consumers.
"Taking advantage of softness in LNG prices, TPL, along with TGL, further intends to explore medium- and long-term LNG procurement in response to the growing demand from its GBPPs and CGD networks, respectively, aiming to enhance its portfolio diversity and reliably meet the energy supply needs of customers," the company said.
Torrent Power has an aggregate installed generation capacity of 4.96 GWp comprising 2.73 GW of gas-based capacity, 1.87 GWp of renewable capacity and 362 MW of coal-based capacity.
Further, Renewable projects of 3.6 GWp, Pump Storage Capacity of 3 GW and coal-based power capacity of 1.6 GW are under development.
Total generation and Pumped Storage capacity, including projects under development, is 10.16 GWp and 3 GW, respectively, positioning as a key player in India’s energy transition.
The company distributes nearly 31 billion units to over 4.21 million customers in the various cities of Gujarat, Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (DNH & DD), suburban Mumbai and Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
Torrent Power's scrip ended at Rs 1253.15, down 2.44% on the BSE, on Monday.
