Indian refiner NRL expects normal diesel supplies to Bangladesh

India's Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) does not expect its shipments of diesel to Bangladesh to be affected by political upheaval in the neighbouring country, the company said on Friday.

NRL, a subsidiary of explorer Oil India, is waiting for its next diesel supply orders to come from Bangladesh, which are due in the second half of this month, Managing Director Bhaskar J Phukan said.

NRL supplies 6,000-7,000 metric tons of diesel from its 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery in northeastern India to Bangladesh Petroleum once per month through a cross-border pipeline.


"This month's quota will be due towards the end of August. I am very confident it will be a business as usual," Phukan told Reuters, adding that NRL had "pumped a large batch prior to the turmoil".

"They are already contacting us for diesel supplies for this month," he said.

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India on Monday after weeks of deadly protests forced her to quit, and a caretaker government led by Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus was sworn in on Thursday, tasked with holding elections.
