India orders strengthening of natural gas infrastructure

India's government on Tuesday published an Essential Commodities Act order that provides a streamlined ‌and ⁠time-bound framework ⁠for laying and expanding pipelines across the country and enables faster development of natural gas infrastructure.

Taking effect immediately, the order sets out ⁠a transparent framework ‌to speed up the development of gas ⁠distribution infrastructure and improve access to cleaner energy, the government said.

It aims to facilitate the expansion of piped natural gas networks, improve last-mile connectivity and promote cleaner fuels ‌for cooking, transport and industrial use, thus strengthening energy security, ⁠the statement added.


The government said the policy reflects India's growing energy demand and the evolving global energy landscape.
