IGL resumes gas supplies to hotels in Delhi
Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) has resumed CNG supply to hotels in the national capital after it was discontinued, fearing shortage in production on account of the Gujarat floods.
NEW DELHI: Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) has resumed CNG supply to hotels in the national capital after it was discontinued, fearing shortage in production on account of the Gujarat floods.
"We have resumed supplies to all the hotels in the national capital from this morning after the Hazira gas plant was restarted on Saturday," IGL Managing Director A K De told media.
IGL, the sole supplier of compressed and piped natural gas to Delhi, stopped the CNG supply to 29 hotels in the capital on August 16 in view of the expected shortage in gas supply due to the closure of the Hazira gas plant.
IGL receives 1.5 mmscmd gas from GAIL-owned Hajira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur (HVJ) gas pipeline.
With there being no production of natural gas in the ONGC-Reliance-British Gas operated Panna/Mukta and Tapti fields from where over 40 mmscmd of gas is supplied for power and fertiliser plants and CNG operations in Delhi, IGL decided to ask the hotels to switch over to alternative fuels.
Production at the Hazira plant has since been resumed, starting Saturday with 6 mmscmd gas supplies.
Hazira plant supplies gas to more than 18 downstream industries through HVJ pipeline of GAIL.
