AHMEDABAD: Indian Oil’s Gujarat Refinery would investing Rs 160 crores to setting up a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant in its 13.7 MMTPA refinery. Mechanical completion of the RO plant is expected to be over by March 2016. The RO plant will maximize reuse of treated effluent by improving its quality and thus reduce fresh water consumption considerably.

"We want to reduce the use of fresh water in our refinery operations by maximizing reuse recycling of effluent water and reduce discharge to bare minimum quantity. The Reverse Osmosis Plant is one such step towards environmental protection and water conservation, said Dhar Gupta, Executive Director, Gujarat Refinery.

Further, taking a step towards reducing carbon footprint, the Refinery would set up a 1400 KW solar power system likely to be commissioned in 2016. A Grid Tied 250KW Solar Power system is already catering to the partial electricity requirement of technical building including daytime lighting and air conditioning.
