GSPC hikes prices of CNG, piped cooking gas

The PSU has raised the price of CNG from Rs 34.45 per kg to Rs 37 per kg, while it has revised the rate of gas supply to industry from Rs 20.45 per standard cubic meter (pscm) to Rs 29.10.

AHMEDABAD: Citing non-allocation of natural gas by the Centre from KG-D6 reserves as a reason, state-run Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation ( GSPC) on Thursday announced across the board hike in gas prices.

The PSU has raised the price of CNG from Rs 34.45 per kg to Rs 37 per kg, while it has revised the rate of gas supply to industry from Rs 20.45 per standard cubic meter (pscm) to Rs 29.10.

"Due to the escalating gas prices globally, GSPC is constrained to revise the prices upwards. The hike shall come into effect from May 5. The company is not getting any cheaper natural gas from the Centre in spite of repeated requests," a GSPC statement said.

The PSU has also raised prices of piped cooking gas supplied to households from Rs 14.05 pscm to Rs 16.91 pscm, while the price of gas supplied to institutions like temples, hotels and others falling in non-commercial category has been hiked from Rs 16.35 pscm to Rs 23.92 pscm.

The CNG prices in Gujarat have risen by close to 25 per cent in the last one year, industry sources said.
