GAIL India plans to supply natural gas in Karnataka

Choubey along with GAIL Director (Finance) R K Goel and Director (Marketing) B C Tripathi presented the company's plans for supplying gas to this city to the Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur here yesterday.
According to Choubey, Bangalore will get regassified-LNG from the Dabhol liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Maharashtra as well as Reliance Industries' eastern offshore gas that is to be fed into GAIL's pipeline network from later this year.
Besides, another line would be laid to connect the city to Kochi in Kerala where Petronet LNG Ltd is building a LNG import terminal by 2011.
The 30-inch, 730 km Dabhol-Bangalore gas pipeline shall be designed to carry 16 million standard cubic meters per day of gas and will need an investment of about Rs 2,500 crore, he said.
Besides feeding the industrial customers, the pipeline would also supply fuel to the city gas distribution projects for retailing gas to households for cooking purpose and CNG to automobiles in major cities in Karnataka.
The route of the proposed pipeline is from R-LNG Terminal of Ratnagiri Gas and Power Private Limited (RGPPL) at Dabhol in Maharashtra up to Bangalore.
The pipeline will pass through Ratnagiri and Kolhapur districts of Maharashtra; and Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri, Davangere, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Bangalore districts of Karnataka. With this pipeline, natural gas from RGPPLs R-LNG Terminal can be supplied to industrial clusters in the state of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
