Donald Trump says this one factor would end Russia-Ukraine war 'immediately'

US President Donald Trump said Thursday that lower oil prices could end war in Ukraine immediately, addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, remotely.

He said he would ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to bring down the cost of oil, referring to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, adding: "If the price came down, the Russia-Ukraine war would end immediately. Right now, the price is high enough that that war will continue - you got to bring down the oil price," he told the World Economic Forum in Davos by video link.

He said he wants to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin soon and to get the war with Ukraine stopped.

"Our efforts to secure a peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine are now, hopefully, underway. It's so important to get that done," said Trump.

He said he also wants to work towards cutting nuclear arms, adding that he thought Russia and China might support reducing their own weapons capabilities.

Meanwhile, he also announced the largest tax cuts in American history to benefit citizens and expressed his intention to tackle inflation in the United States.

"Come make your product in America and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on earth," Trump said

"But if you don't make your product in America, which is your prerogative, then very simply you will have to pay a tariff," he added.
