Crude price fall: How all but the consumer gained

Who gains the most if crude falls? Definitely not the consumer, at least in India. Although crude prices have come down by 55% in the last three years, petrol prices are only a shade lower while diesel is retailing at about the same level as in 2014.

The biggest gainer in the oil retailing economy has obviously been the Union govt, reaping gains by raising duty and taxes. Add to this the higher dividend paid by oil PSUs, which netted more profits during the period.

States too mopped up more via higher taxes as well as fuel sellers with fatter commisions. ET takes a look...
