ATF, commercial LPG prices cut as global benchmarks ease

Oil marketing companies have reduced the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG gas cylinder by Rs 51.50, effective September 1, bringing the new price in Delhi to Rs 1580. This cut offers relief to commercial consumers, continuing a trend of price reduc...

Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices were cut by 1.4 per cent on Monday, while commercial LPG cylinders became cheaper by ₹51.50. The revision follows a fall in international benchmark rates, according to state-run fuel retailers.

ATF in Delhi was reduced by ₹1,308.41 per kilolitre to ₹90,713.52 per kl. The cut comes after two consecutive monthly hikes since July 1, which together raised prices by ₹8,949.38 per kl in response to higher global oil rates amid geopolitical tensions. Fuel accounts for about 40 per cent of airlines’ operating costs, and the reduction may ease some of that pressure. No immediate response came from airlines on the impact of the change.

In Mumbai, ATF prices dropped to ₹84,832.83 per kl from ₹86,077.14. Rates in Chennai and Kolkata were set at ₹94,151.96 and ₹93,886.18 per kl, respectively. Prices vary by state because of local taxes such as VAT.

Separately, commercial LPG used in hotels and restaurants was reduced to ₹1,580 per 19-kg cylinder in Delhi. This marks the sixth straight cut since April, with a cumulative reduction of ₹223. Last month, prices fell by ₹33.50 per cylinder. Industry officials attributed the softer trend to weaker seasonal demand during summer.

The price of domestic LPG, used in households, stayed unchanged at ₹853 for a 14.2-kg cylinder. It was last increased by ₹50 in April. Petrol and diesel prices also remain unchanged since a ₹2 per litre cut in March last year. Petrol sells at ₹94.72 a litre in Delhi, while diesel costs ₹87.62.

State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) adjust ATF and LPG prices monthly, based on global benchmarks and exchange rates.
