Coal liquefaction hunt is on

The government on Wednesday said that a Joint Task Force comprising officials of Coal India and Oil India has been formed for ascertaining availability of coal for coal liquefaction process in the north-eastern region.

NEW DELHI. The government on Wednesday said that a Joint Task Force (JTF) comprising officials of Coal India and Oil India has been formed for ascertaining availability of coal for coal liquefaction process in the north-eastern region.

Technical aspects for conversion of coal to oil have been established in some nations and the same might be possible in India.

However the economic viability of the same was yet to be proven, minister of state for coal Dasari Narayana Rao said in the Lok Sabha.CIL in collaboration with OIL plans to set up a coal liquefaction pilot project at latter’s refinery at Duliajan in Assam.
