New Delhi: The steel, automobile, textile, dye, chemicals and plastics industries will now receive LPG supplies after the oil ministry raised allocation of commercial gas by another 20% specifically for industries.

"Additional allocation shall be given to industries, with priority to steel, automobile, textile, dye, chemicals and plastics, which are labour-intensive and support other essential sectors," petroleum secretary Neeraj Mittal wrote to state governments on Friday.

"Among these, priority shall be given to process industries or those requiring LPG for specialised heating purposes that cannot be substituted by natural gas."

Earlier this month, the Centre had cut allocations to commercial and industrial users as it prioritised households amid LPG supply concerns due to the Iran war. Since then, the oil ministry has gradually eased access-first restoring 20% of pre-war commercial consumption to essential sectors such as hospitals and hospitality, then extending another 20% to restaurants, factory canteens and community kitchens.
