Centre increases gas supply for Uran and Dabhol power plants

The Union Govt has agreed to increase the supply of gas from state-owned companies like ONGC and GAIL to run the power plants at Uran and Dabhol in Maharashtra, which may partially ease the power situation in the state.


MUMBAI : Petroleum Minister Murli Deora has agreed to increase the supply of gas from state-owned companies like ONGC and GAIL to run the power plants at Uran and Dabhol in Maharashtra which may partially ease the power situation in the state.

A press note released by the state government said Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh met Deora today to demand increased gas supply to feed the Uran and Dabhol power plants owing to festivals like Ganpati, Ramazan and Navratri.

The press note said power generation from these plants could go up by 200 to 540 MW after the additional gas is received.

At present, Uran power plant is generating only 350 to 450 MW of power against its capacity of 852 MW.

Besides, the press note said Mahagenco, the power generation arm of the state government has managed to convince ONGC to reduce the price of natural gas from US $ 16.87 per mmbtu to US $ 11.
