British Gas inks long term gas supply agreement with GSPC
Intially, British Gas will supply 1.25 mtpa of Liquified Natural Gas, and the quantum will be raised to 2.5 mtpa after two years.
“India is a large and important market. We expect the country to be the third largest importer of LNG by 2025 after Japan and China,” said the statement quoting BG Group Chief Executive Chris Finlayson.
The deal has been signed at a time when a high-level trade delegation led by Hugo Swire, British Minister of State for Foreign Office, is on a visit to the state. The move is view as a step towards increasing engagement with Gujarat after a decade long boycott by British following the post Godhra riots of 2002.
Swire met Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.
British High Commissioner James Bevan had visited Gandhinagar in October last year and had discussed a range of issues including trade and commerce with the Gujarat CM.
