Manmad Municipal Council had sealed a BPCL unit at Panewadi after the oil company failed to pay "dues" of Rs 23 crore, but the seal was removed on the directives of District Collector S Chokkalingam, MMC sources said today.

NASHIK: Manmad Municipal Council had sealed a BPCL unit at Panewadi after the oil company failed to pay "dues" of Rs 23 crore, but the seal was removed on the directives of District Collector S Chokkalingam, MMC sources said today.

The seal was removed last night, they said. BPCL has storage tanks at Panewadi, about 8 kms from Manmad, and the company provides petroleum products from this facility to Delhi, Kota and Haryana apart from North and central parts of Maharashtra.

The council had sought Rs 23 crore in "export fee" from the government-run oil firm and the case went to the court which gave its ruling in favour of the civic body.

MMC then served a notice on BPCL, asking it to pay the pending amount within seven days.

After the company failed to do so, MMC officials, including its Chief Executive Officer Vijay Kulkarni, President Rajabhau Chhajed, and local MLA Sanjay Pawar went to the site and sealed the unit yesterday.

Later in the day on Friday, BPCL had moved the Bombay High Court, praying for an immediate relief.

The Court's vacation bench, however, had refused to pass any order without hearing the MMC.
