Energy major BP on Wednesday announced plans to set up a technical centre in Pune, which is expected to employ more than 400 people and serve the company’s business globally.

The centre is slated to open in the second quarter of 2024, the company said in a statement. The headcount is expected to rise to 400 by the end of this year when the centre is fully operational. Molyama Kromah, a former gas business executive at BP, would head the Pune centre.

The centre “intends to provide technical services across a range of areas, including engineering, maintenance, optimization, data processes, projects, and subsurface. bp is also looking at other growth areas within the operation,” the company said.


“India’s large technical talent pool and successful track record of establishing global capability centres across a broad range of industries positions it as an ideal destination for the hub,” said Giovanni Cristofoli, senior vice president for BP solutions.

"Pune is also home to BP’s global business solutions centre and innovation and engineering digital hub, which has played a critical role in the transformation of BP’s business processes,” the company said.
