Bharatgas introduces Lite ZIP, a next-generation lightweight LPG cylinder, to expand to 100 cities by August 15

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has launched Bharatgas Lite ZIP, a premium LPG offering that combines an instant new-connection facility with express delivery, the company said in a statement on X.

The product was launched by Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Khanna, in the presence of Director (Marketing) Subhankar Sen.

Bharatgas Lite ZIP is built around BPCL's Bharatgas Lite composite cylinder, which the company said offers easier handling, a corrosion-free body, a visible gas-level indicator, added safety features and a modern design.

BPCL said the offering has been designed for "today's fast-paced lifestyles" and is aimed at giving customers a seamless, premium LPG experience.

Bharatgas Lite ZIP has been launched first in Mumbai. BPCL said the service will be extended to 100 additional cities across 24 states by August 15, 2026, taking its premium features to more households nationally.

BPCL's launch comes days after Swiggy Instamart tied up with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) to launch on-demand LPG cylinder delivery on a quick-commerce app, a first for the sector. That partnership also introduced HP Navya, HPCL's new 10-kg composite cylinder, with the service going live first in Bengaluru alongside the existing 5-kg metal cylinder.

Under the Instamart-HPCL arrangement, customers do not need an existing domestic LPG connection to order, opening the service to students, working professionals and smaller households without a formal connection. First orders are fulfilled as new cylinder purchases with identity verification and proof-of-delivery built in; later orders are treated as refills, with the empty cylinder picked up on delivery.

HPCL has positioned the HP Navya cylinder as a lighter, corrosion-resistant, translucent-bodied alternative to steel cylinders, aimed at apartments, small families and secondary-cylinder use. Orders are fulfilled through HPCL's existing distributor network.

Instamart CEO Amitesh Jha had said the platform's move into LPG builds on its expansion beyond groceries into "everyday" essential services. HPCL Director-Marketing Amit Garg had said the tie-up was aimed at making LPG more accessible for "Naya Bharat" through a fast, digitally enabled channel. The companies have not given a timeline for expanding the Instamart service beyond Bengaluru.

With BPCL's Bharatgas Lite ZIP, all three major state-run oil marketing companies now have composite-cylinder or fast-delivery LPG offerings in market or in pilot, as OMCs compete for share in the premium and quick-commerce-linked LPG segment.
