86% of North East Gas Grid project complete: Indradhanush Gas Grid

The sixth Annual General Meeting of Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited, a Joint Venture Company of five major petroleum PSUs viz. IOCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL & NRL was held here in its Corporate Office at Guwahati on 27th August 2024.

The meeting was attended by its Chairman, Shareholders of the Company, Directors of the Board, and the KMPs of the organisation. Anfor Ali Haque, Chairman, IGGL in his address to the shareholders, thanked the investors and the shareholders for their continuous trust & support to the company in implementing the North East Gas Grid Project (NEGG) for ushering a gas-based economy in the North Eastern Region of India.

The stakeholders discussed the company’s achievements over the past year, and outlined the plan for the future. The shareholders appreciated the progress achieved during the last one year despite facing various challenges, including difficult terrain, unforeseen natural calamities etc. As on date, IGGL has achieved a cumulative progress of 82.80%, closely aligned with the scheduled progress of 86.46%, with a target of laying 1656 km NEGG pipeline at a total project cost of Rs 9265 Crore.



Till date, IGGL has completed 1006 km of welding, out of which 892 km has already been lowered. During the FY 2023-24, the company has achieved a Capex of Rs 1135.24 Crore with a cumulative Capex up to March 31, 2024 amounting Rs 5361.41 Crore.

Haque underscored the significant milestones achieved by the project, notably the completion of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) across eight major rivers, including the Brahmaputra. These crossings, known for their complex engineering challenges, highlight IGGL’s commitment to deploying advanced technologies and expertise.

The Chairman emphasized that signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Cairn Vedanta and Antelopus, signing of Hook-up agreements with NEGDCL and ONGC along with the signing of interconnectivity agreement with GAIL, OIL and NEEPCO for transportation of natural gas through NEGG, represents a significant stride towards realizing a sustainable gas-based economy in the North East region.


Haque appreciated the efforts of the management of IGGL in successfully obtaining the Gas Supplying & Marketing rights and the IP1 licence for the lease of optic fibre cables, thus enhancing the business reach.
