KoPT clears additional land to ITC
The Kolkata Port Trust has cleared additional land for ITC Ltd for the expansion of its cigarette factory at Kidderpore, an official of the trust said.
"The board has just cleared allotment of an additional small piece of land to ITC at Kidderpore," the KoPT official said.
Earlier, the KoPT had sanctioned nearly three acres of land to ITC for its proposed Rs 300 crore expansion of the cigarette manufacturing facility at Kidderpore.
KoPT sources said that although the company was allotted three acres of land a few months back, ITC was yet to get physical possession of the land due to some problems on the port's side.
The official said that all the problems were now being sorted out and that KoPT would give the entire land to ITC within the next 7-10 days.
KoPT would provide land to ITC on long-term lease basis. Besides the expansion of the cigarette factory, ITC plans to invest in the agricultural sector in West Bengal, for which it has earmarked an expenditure of Rs 1,500 crore.
