Kanpur tobacco traders on two-day strike from today

Nearly 2000 traders have gone on strike over the frequent sample testing by the officials, a step, the former said is very humiliating.

KANPUR: Nearly 2,000 tobacco traders of the city have gone on a two-day strike over the frequent sample testing of the commodity by the officials, a step, the former said is very humiliating.

In this respect, a delegation under the leadership Kanpur Traders Association President Vijay Pandey met the Divisional Commissioner Mohd Iftikharuddin and told him about their "problems".

Pandey said, "Officers of District Administration, Commercial Tax and Food Department, in the name of sample testing are torturing us psychologically and economically. They anytime raid our shops due to which work is being effected"

He said that though the officials were told that traders have no problems in co-operating with them but their should be a fix time for the inspection, yet they are arrive anytime.

"We met the Commissioner and told our problems to him. He has called us for a joint meeting with officials tomorrow," Pandey said, adding, traders will keep shops their closed till the outcome of the meeting.
