'India can make hay as tobacco prod dips in Brazil, Zimbabwe'

India can take advantage of reduced tobacco production in traditional tobacco-growing countries like Brazil and Zimbabwe, ITC CEO S Janardhan Reddy said.

GUNTUR: India can take advantage of reduced tobacco production in traditional tobacco-growing countries like Brazil and Zimbabwe, ITC CEO S Janardhan Reddy said.

Since the production of tobacco worldwide has gone down, India should increase its production in the country, he said at the Tobacco Board Foundation Day here.

Indian Tobacco Association President M Venkateswara Rao said the production of tobacco in other countries has declined resulting in heavy demand for Indian tobacco.

Tobacco Board Chairman J Suresh Babu and former chairman Paul Bhuyan also agreed that traders should take advantage of current tobacco scenario.

Former Rajya Sabha member and president Virgina Tobacco Growers Association, Y Shivaji promised conditional support to the tobacco trade in its fight against the imposition of agricultural market cess on sale of tobacco and to Andhra Pradesh Market Act.
