Wendy’s ties up with UB Group, Grover Zampa to serve beer, wine

The US chain, which says it is the third largest burger seller in the world, made its India debut in May ‘15.

NEW DELHI: Global burger chain Wendy's on Monday announced two tie ups with beer maker United Breweries and wine company Grover Zampa to serve alcoholic beverages at its stores.

The US chain, which says it is the third largest burger seller in the world, made its India debut in May ‘15.

A report by researcher Euromonitor last quarter had said that for the first time, beer will outsell hard spirits such as whisky and rum in India. The report attributed reasons such as growth in social drinking, prohibition which is likely to impact beer less than spirits with most states focusing on restrictive measures on stronger alcoholic drinks, emergence of variants like craft and flavoured beer and mushrooming beer cafes to fuel the category. While beer sales volumes are forecast to grow higher at an average 5.7% between 2015 and 2020, the growth in spirits as a category will be less than 2%, Euromonitor had said.
