KOLKATA: To boost sales in the whisky market, United Spirits Limited (USL) - formed by the merger of United Breweries and Shaw Wallace, is seeking a new segment between the premium and prestige categories.
USL-East chief operating officer Kaushik Chatterjee said the new segment has been named as 'prestige plus' or luxury, adding that the price point was attractive enough to upgrade whisky drinkers from the prestige segment.
He said this segment was expected to grow at a rate of 44 per cent in the first year of launch.
USL has positioned 'Royal Mist' luxury whisky in the prestige plus segment.
The company sales have crossed 66 million cases.
The eastern region recorded a growth of 19 per cent, which was higher than the national growth.
