UB net zooms 100%
United Breweries (UB) reported a whopping 100% jump in net profit in the first-quarter ended June 30, ‘06.
BANGALORE: United Breweries (UB) reported a whopping 100% jump in net profit in the first-quarter ended June 30, ‘06. The company’s net profit zoomed to Rs 27.53 crore, up from Rs 13.83 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
This comes on the back of 23% volume growth in the April to June quarter, as the brewing industry came out of one of the best growth quarters in its history. “Regulatory changes in the north have resulted in an explosive demand from that region.
Opening of new outets and pipeline filling has resulted in a one-off growth of 77%,” the company said.
Moderate price increases in some states coupled with volume growth lifted the company’s total income during the quarter to Rs 195.74 crore, as against Rs 170.52 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Also, with costs remaining under control, the company’s operating margin posted a healthy 26% growth. Growth in the strong-beer segment continues to be the key driver, with the industry posting a 28.8% growth, compared with last year. The company’s Kingfisher Strong grew 41% and Kingfisher Premium Lager grew at 18%, against the mild-beer category growth of 20.4%.
