Say cheers to Argentinean wines

Diageo India, the owner of well-known liquor brands like Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker and VAT69, has plans to introduce Argentinean and Chilean wines in the country.

MUMBAI: Diageo India, the owner of well-known liquor brands like Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker and VAT69, has plans to introduce Argentinean and Chilean wines in the country. Although industry watchers say the company has lined up two brands — San Telmo and Navarro Correas — for launch, Santosh Kanekar, director – marketing, Diageo India, only named San Telmo.

"We want to fill up our entire wine basket. We already have Californian, French and Austrian wines to offer; the Argentinean and Chilean wines will help us complete the offering," Kanekar adds.

Diageo plans to launch these wines within a month's time. According to industry estimates, the Indian wine market, currently pegged at around Rs 400 crore, is set for heavy growth — a Rs 2,000 crore market by 2010.
