John Distilleries Ltd, a Bengaluru-based liquor maker and owner of the popular single malt whisky Paul John, has reported a 15 per cent growth in its revenue from operations to Rs 10,820.10 crore. The company's net profit stood at Rs 11.6 crore for the financial year ended on March 31, 2026.
Its total income increased 14.8 per cent to Rs 10,845.20 crore in FY26, according to financial data accessed through the business intelligence platform Tofler.
John Distilleries' revenue from operations was at Rs 9,401 crore, while its net profit stood at Rs 1.6 crore in the previous financial year.
Meanwhile, the ownership structure of John Distilleries has undergone a significant change, with global spirits major Sazerac emerging as the majority shareholder in the company.
With this, John Distilleries Ltd joins the league of India's alcoholic beverage companies with revenues of over Rs 10,000 crore, alongside major players such as Pernod Ricard India, Diageo India (United Spirits Ltd), United Breweries Ltd and Radico Khaitan.
According to the company's latest filing with the Registrar of Companies (RoC), as of March 31, 2026, Sazerac of Ireland Unlimited Company, a subsidiary of US-based spirits group Sazerac, owned a 66 per cent stake in John Distilleries Ltd.
The remaining 34 per cent shareholding was held by Paul John Fund LLC, an entity owned by the company's founder and promoter Paul P John.
A year earlier, Paul John Fund LLC held a majority 66 per cent stake in John Distilleries, while Sazerac owned the remaining 34 per cent. The change reflects a reversal in the shareholding pattern, resulting in Sazerac becoming the controlling shareholder of the company.
John Distilleries is known for its flagship Original Choice whisky, one of the country's largest-selling brands in the mass-market Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) segment, besides its premium Paul John single malt whisky portfolio.
Both Sazerac and Paul John Fund LLC are classified as promoters of John Distilleries. Sazerac is among the world's largest spirits companies and the second-largest spirits manufacturer in the United States.
Sazerac has been investing in John Distilleries since 2017, after it acquired a minority stake. It is also expanding its play in India, the largest whisky market globally, witnessing premiumisation, where people are spending more on quality experiences with rising disposable income.
