Diageo to cut liquor prices in Maharashtra by up to 25 pc
World's largest spirits maker Diageo today slashed prices of its products by up to 25 per cent in Maharashtra following the state government's decision to altering policy on imported liquors.
"The policy change is welcome. This will benefit consumers, but like Goa, Maharashtra can go for further relaxation," Diageo India Managing Director Asif Adil said.
After the policy change, the company would price Johny Walker Black Label and Red Label at Rs 2,728 and Rs 1,365, a decrease of 24 per cent and 10 per cent respectively, while its Johny Walker Gold would see a price reduction of 25 per cent at Rs 5198 per bottle.
Earlier, Maharashtra was the only state in which prices of scotch imports had gone up after the Centre reduced the additional customs duty.
Consumers can avail the benefit of reduction of Rs 4,373 in Johny Walker Blue. The price for this product has been reduced to Rs 15,355.
"This will definitely boost sales, but by how much we can't quantify at the moment," Adil said.
Adil said such a move in one of its important markets would result in increased sales.
"Last year, we sold 22,000 cases and in the first half of this fiscal we have already crossed 36,000 cases," he said, however, declining to predict any specific numbers.
He said the company would come with out promotional offers for trade partners to boost sales further.
