MUMBAI: The Karan Bilimoria-promoted Cobra Beer has acquired the Bihar-based Iceberg beer, a brand that sells over 500,000 cases a year. Mr Bilimoria, who addressed the media to announce the takeover, however did not specify the cost of this particular acquisition. He said that it is part of the $50-million earmarked for expansion of Indian business.

The ac-quisition also includes the plant that has a capacity for 2.5 million cases. Cobra has purchased 76% equity of the Katyal family-owned Iceberg brewery with Amit Katyal retaining the remaining 24%. Co-bra was originally produced by Mysore Breweries in Karnataka but when the brand was taken over by the UK-based Bilimoria, the site of production shifted from Bangalore to Britain.
