Carlsberg to adds two new breweries in India
Danish brewer Carlsberg will expand its presence in India by adding two more greenfield breweries in the country in partnership with South Asia Breweries.

NEW DELHI: Danish brewer Carlsberg on Thursday said it will expand its presence in India by adding two more greenfield breweries in the country in partnership with South Asia Breweries.
The breweriesone each in Maharashtra and West Bengal are expected to commence production during the second quarter of this year, a company statement said without divulging the investment details.
The brewery in Aurangabad, Maharashtra would have an initial licensed capacity of 5,00,000 hl.
While the one located near Kolkata in West Bengal would be a part of a joint venture between South Asia Breweries (60 per cent) and local partners from West Bengal lead by Parag Mitra and Debasis Mukherjee.
The plant would have an initial capacity of 1,20,000 hl, with possibilities for expansion, the statement said.
It added that its brewery in Alwar, Rajasthan would start production and deliveries in the first quarter this year.
The fourth brewery owned by South Asia Breweries which launched production of Carlsberg Group brands last summer is located in Himachal Pradesh with a capacity of 1,50,000 hl with possibilities for expansion.
The portfolio of the four breweries includes a number of brands from the Carlsberg Group, including Carlsberg and Okocim Palone. Plans are afoot to introduce more brands during 2008.
"With four modern breweries Carlsberg and its joint venture partners have within a little more than one year established a significant platform in the Indian beer market. The Indian beer market is very small today with an annual per capita consumption of around 1 litre but it is considered one of the most promising growth markets in the world," Carlsberg Asia Senior Vice President Jesper B. Madsen said.
