West Bengal to come up with new textile policy

Mr Manas Bhunia on Friday announced that the state government is coming up with a textile policy which will prove beneficial for the MSMEs.

KOLKATA: West Bengal minister of MSMEs and textiles Mr Manas Bhunia on Friday announced that the state government is coming up with a textile policy which will prove beneficial for the MSMEs. He also added that Indian Institute of Handloom Technology will be set up in Shantipur which will be funded by the central government. Bhunia was addressing at the Conference on Linkgae 2011: Building Partnership for MSMEs organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

At the conference the minister made an appeal to teh bankers to lend loans and extend necessary support to the MSMEs as they form the means of real growth in India. He announced the introduction of uniform credit cards for the small entrepreneurs which is awaiting approval from Centre.

The minister informed the gathering that apart from the Institute of Handloom Technology, textile hubs will be built. He also added that special effort should be taken to give a fresh filip to Murshidabad sil so that it can become a global quality product. "A silk park will also be set up soon. Under the PMEGP, over 10,000 recipients have been helped to establish their small units," he said.

Addressing the gathering Mr G.k. Pillai, vice chairman, defence task force CII (eastern region) and chairman and managing director of HEC Ltd said: "India being one of the fastest growing economy, the MSME sector has a key role to play to sustain the growth process. The tremendous global aspirations are ushering in product efficiency, quality efficiency and a positive trading scenario.
