Textile ministry inks pacts with 15 states to strengthen data systems
The Textiles Ministry has partnered with fifteen states to enhance data systems for the textile sector. This initiative, Tex-RAMPS, aims to improve data quality and research. The goal is to support the industry's growth towards a $350 billion valu...
The memoranda of understanding were signed at the National Textiles Ministers' Conference in Guwahati, the government said. The conference is taking place from January 8-9.
At event, textiles minister Giriraj Singh urged the textile ministers of states and UTs to formulate investor-friendly policies and emphasised the need to attract greater investment in the textile sector at the state level.
“The MoUs create a robust operational framework designed to strengthen the textile data systems across various states and Union Territories,” textiles ministry said in a statement.
Tex-RAMPS scheme drives integrated planning for key sectors including handlooms, handicrafts, apparel and technical textiles by focusing efforts directly at the cluster and district levels.
To support these structural reforms, the ministry is providing financial assistance through a yearly grant of Rs 12 lakh to each state/UT.
“By strengthening the textiles statistical system, the government aims to bridge existing data gaps and ensure that the road-map towards a $350-billion industry is backed by robust, real-time insights,“ it said.
Singh said the government is working in a steady and balanced manner to harmonise production, exports, and sustainability in the textile sector.
The deliberations in the conference are designed to take a holistic view of the sector rather than focusing on isolated interventions and recognising that long-term success depends on alignment across the value chain and coordinated efforts from the states.
Over the two days, discussions will span strengthening infrastructure and investment frameworks, upgrading technology and processing capabilities, expanding exports and branding Bharat’s textiles globally, ensuring availability of raw materials and fibres, promoting technical textiles and new-age fibres, and preserving the rich heritage of handlooms and handicrafts while integrating them with modern value chains.
This assumes significance as by 2030, the country aims to double the size of the textile industry to $350 billion from $176 billion
