Textile exports to be increased to $ 50 bn by 2010

Government has decided to raise textile exports to $50 billion by 2010, Union Minister for Textiles Shankarsinh Vaghela said on Sunday.

BANGALORE: Government has decided to raise textile exports to $50 billion by 2010, Union Minister for Textiles Shankarsinh Vaghela said on Sunday.

Steps were afoot to increase textile exports from the current level of $19 billion to $50 billion, he said after inaugurating the KUFNER-IADCE Textile Summit 2007 here.

The country has skilled manpower and by imparting advanced training to them it was possible to strengthen the textile sector in the country, Vagela said.

He asked German investors to invest in textile sector in the country, for which the government has announced several new initiatives including setting up SEZs.

Later speaking to the press, Vagela said the government proposed to establish centralised textile parks in the country.

The government has cleared 30 proposals to set up such parks from entrepreneurs he said adding that states like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have evinced interest in the project.
