Textile and apparel exports are expected to grow 12% annually as international retailers increasingly look at India as an alternative to China for sourcing these goods.

‘COIMBATORE: Textile and apparel exports are expected to grow 12% annually as international retailers increasingly look at India as an alternative to China for sourcing these goods, says a new report.

A 12% CAGR was expected in exports, while the demand in domestic market was likely to expand by 6.5%, according to CII-Ernst and Young Textile and Apparel Report-2007 ‘India in the Global Textiles Ecosystem’.

The report identified sourcing as a huge opportunity. The expected sourcing market size in 2008 was $22-25 billion and projected it to grow to $35-37 billion in 2011, it said.
