New Delhi: The government Wednesday said that the minimum import price (MIP) condition for certain synthetic knitted fabrics is not appllicable for advance authorisation holders, export-oriented units and units in the special economic zones.

There is an MIP of $3.5 per kg on imports of certain synthetic knitted fabrics. The imports of these products were $223 million in April-January FY25. MIP is a tool to check imports of cheaper products and protect the domestic industry.

“Inputs imported by advance authorisation holders, export oriented units and units in the SEZ (special economic zone) shall be exempted from this MIP (minium import price) condition,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.


India, had in January, extended the MIP on synthetic knitted fabrics for three months till March.
