RSP to set up handloom centre for underprivileged women
The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has set up a handloom centre for imparting free training for underprivileged women.
The centre, known as 'Deepika Hast Kargha', has been set up in association with leading philanthropic organisation of the Steel City 'Deepika Mahila Sanghati'.
"It has become a source of inspiration and aspirations for many a woman," a senior RSP official said.
Through a survey conducted by the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Department of RSP, 30 women were selected on the basis of their economic background from villages like Dalposh, Jhirpani and Bartoli to be trained free of cost by experts in handloom making for a period of 6 months, he said.
"These women had a thirst for knowledge and lot of aspirations to progress and build a strong economic background for their family. They get a stipend of Rs 4,000 every month even as they train in the craft of handloom making," he said.
Through this training programme these women aspire to become independent entrepreneurs and improve their quality of life, the RSP official said.
