Report on India's competitiveness with competing nations ready
A report of the competitive matrix of cotton textile industry has been completed and would be released by union Textile Minister K Sambasiva Rao at Delhi on July 25.
"The scientifically analysed and measured study made for the Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council (TEXPORIL) would certainly be instrumental in creating a road map for increasing textile exports from India and in building confidence among the lenders and investors," its chairman, Manikam Ramasami said in a release.
The report, titled 'Cost Benchmarking Study-India vis-à-vis Bangladesh, Indonesia, Egypt, China, Pakistan and Turkey,' contain some revealing facts, figures and prognostications on cotton textile industry.
The study consists of detailed analysis of the impact of various cost factors like wages, power costs, water charges, transport cost and exchange rates on competitiveness of the textile industry in India, as well as these countries,he said.
It also outlined the support given by competing countries to promote textile exports, he said, adding this would also provide valuable inputs for formulation of the next Textile policy by the Centre.
The function would be attended, among others by textile magnates, policy makers and academicians, including Zohra Chatterji, Union textile secretary, top officials of the ministries of Finance, Commerce and industry and chairmen of Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) and Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA).
