A vertical portal on handloom textile industry, aimed at providing a common platform to weavers and importers, was launched.

KOLKATA: A vertical portal on handloom textile industry, aimed at providing a common platform to weavers and importers, was launched here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEO of the portal, www.handlooms.com, D G Ladha said the portal has extensive data base on weavers and textile importers to bring them together.
"The textile industry would reach $55 billion by 2012 as also non-convential textile for use in other applications was witnessing a sharp rise in demand," he said.
"The technical textile (non-conventional) demand would be $8 billion by 2009," Ladha said.
The portal would benefit villages in West Bengal, where textile activity was brisk, by connecting weavers with importers, he said.
