Jammu and Kashmir government flags off Rs 10 crore integrated wool project to promote wool industry
The Jammu and Kashmir government has kicked off a Rs 10 cr Integrated Project for Development of Wool and Woollen Design and a Development Centre.
The Centre, which has been sanctioned under Prime Minister's Economic Reconstruction Plan, was inaugurated by State Industries and Commerce Minister S S Slathia yesterday, an official spokesman said.
He said training has been imparted to workers to produce quality handlooms and woollen fabrics.
"The project comprises phase I and Phase II. First phase envisages yarn preparation waving product development, design development, training, testing and setting up a centre for wool development in the state.
"The second phase envisages wool grading raw wool processing wool spinning and fabric processing to upgrade this sector for overall development of woolen textiles in the state," he said.
Slathia said the main aim of the project was to revive and upgrade the woollen industry in the state and exploit its tremendous potential.
He said with the establishment of this project, the state's economy would receive much-needed fillip. The handloom sector has vast employment scope, he added.
