Indorama doubles spandex yarn production
After an investment of Rs 400 crores in early FY 2012-13, the company has now accelerated their expansion in order to meet India's growing demand for Spandex yarns.
Indorama Corporation Ltd., a $10 billion company, commenced production of spandex yarns in India in March 2012 at their plant in Baddi (Himachal Pradesh). Being the only manufacturer of Spandex filament in India, Indorama Industries spandex yarn production aims to ubstantially cut down on Spandex import from several countries including China which presently accounts for nearly 80% of global spandex production.
Announcing phase-2 of their production, Amit Lohia, Group MD of Indorama Corporation said, "We are on a phase of growth in the country and have now decided to ramp up our production by 100%. Considering our plant in Baddi is equipped to support 15,000 tons of spandex production, we aim to double our capacity to 10,000 tons by next year, and then add another 5,000 tons later. The capacity increase will also benefit us to absorb overheads and reduce per unit cost. Phase - 2 of our production is in line with our goal of meeting the country's present requirement of 8000 to 10000 tones and also emerging as a leading exporter of Spandex yarns in the next couple of years." Indorama Industries is also in the process of setting up a Spandex Application Development Center to spearhead new product developmental activities.
