COIMBATORE: A government appointed panel on textile industry on Wednesday invited stakeholders to go in for 'Handloom Mark' registration under the 'Great Indian Heritage Promotional Scheme'.
The scheme aims at branding Indian handloom products and secure a niche market for them in domestic as well as international markets, the Committee said in a release here.
The Committee, which is the implementing agency of the heritage promotional programme, said that the scheme would cover all handloom products like fabrics and garments.
The scheme is operational throughout India and all stakeholders of the sector such as individual weavers, master weavers, apex and primary handloom weavers' cooperative societies, Handloom Development Corporations, traders, retailers, manufacturer exporters and merchant exporters would be entitled to participate in it and avail of its benefits.
Handloom mark for Indian handwoven products would provide a collective identity to its products, distinctive name in identifying the product or manufacturer, enhance price realisation, strengthen the supply chain, serve as guarantee to the customers, distinguish the handloom products from competition and thus facilitate the growth of the Handloom sector, the release said.
