Kolkata: Apparel exporter Gokaldas Exports reported a 13% year-on-year increase in consolidated total income to ₹1,135 crore in the second quarter of FY27, driven by a strong order book and improved execution in India, along with robust growth in its Africa operations.

Net profit surged 410% to ₹41 crore in Q2FY27 against ₹8 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. EBITDA rose 52% to ₹127 crore, while the EBITDA margin expanded to 11.2% from 8.3% a year earlier, an improvement of 287 basis points.

The company said growth in the quarter was supported by an improved product mix and productivity gains. However, higher wages and increased factor costs, driven by rising oil prices, limited the margin improvement. The company also benefited from a lower base in Q2FY26, when its performance was affected by US tariffs.

The India business recorded a 10% year-on-year growth in income during the quarter, supported by a healthy order book and better execution. Africa operations outperformed, registering a 32% increase in income, aided by higher volumes and improved realisations.

For the first half of FY27, consolidated total income grew 17% to ₹2,315 crore from ₹1,980 crore in the year-ago period. EBITDA increased 32% to ₹266 crore, while net profit rose 73% to ₹86 crore.

The EBITDA margin for the six-month period improved to 11.5% from 10.2% a year earlier. India's income grew 13%, while Africa delivered a stronger 39% growth during the period.

The company's balance sheet also strengthened during the first half, with net debt declining to ₹429 crore as of September 2026 from ₹553 crore at the end of March 2026.

Commenting on the performance, Sivaramakrishnan Ganapathi, vice chairman and managing director of Gokaldas Exports, said better order execution in India and higher volumes and realisations in Africa had driven income growth during the quarter.

"Focus on productivity gains and a strong order book should help growth and margins going forward," he said.

The performance comes against a challenging backdrop for India's apparel exporters, who have been navigating tariff-related uncertainties in the US market and rising operating costs. Gokaldas Exports' growth in Africa and improved execution in India have supported its overall performance, while the trajectory of input costs and export-market demand will remain important for sustaining margins.
